The Unforgettable Summer
Author’s Note: I wrote
this for my District Writing Assessment.
Many kids and adults
don’t experience going through a divorce. In the end most divorced couples end
up loving someone else. Divorce is very difficult for adults and especially children.
Ronnie, the main character in this book, “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks,
doesn’t believe in love. So Ronnie doesn’t love her dad after she believes he
caused the divorce. “The Last Song” is an eye opening experience. Many people
can learn lots of things from this book; you can learn the meaning of love, to
never judge someone, and in the end the meaning of the title.
First you could learn
to never judge people by whom they associate with, or by how they dress and
speak. You can learn that because Ronnie, the main character in the story,
judged Will. Will was a character who accidentally spilled soda on Ronnie at a
volleyball game. Ronnie was mad and judged Will because she thought he thought
he was to cool. Ronnie also judged her dad because she thought that he was
going to be boring and not want to do anything with her. She was wrong about
both guys. Ronnie ended up loving Will and she liked hanging out with her dad.
Ronnie loved them both in the end.
When you love someone
you will do anything for that person and that is also learned from this book.
Ronnie ended up forgiving Will and her father. Ronnie had to leave
New York to go to South Carolina to visit her dad and her dad eventually
died of cancer. Her father died right in front of her. After the funeral
Will said he didn’t want to be with Ronnie and didn’t say good-bye to her
before she left to go back home to New York. About a year later while Ronnie
changed her life around and went back to school, Will came back and said that
he loved her. Will also said he was stupid to let her leave and not say a
good-bye. This time he was going to stay and go to college in New York with
Ronnie.
This book means many
things to me but the most important thing is the title. The Last Song
it means more than just love. It means it will be the last time Ronnie
will hear, see, talk to and most importantly hear her dad’s music on the piano.
When Ronnie’s dad died that was “the last song” she ever heard him play. When
he died she changed her life around and then started to play music again on the
piano. This was her way to remember her dad.
This book isn’t just an intense love
story, but it is an intense, real life story that happens to many people. It is
all worth living for, in the end everyone is happy. This book can and will
teach you what happens to many families. This book will even help you get
through your own personal situation. This book will inspire you and put a smile
in your heart.
